This is one of my favorite classic bass sounds! Heard all over house and techno records in the '90s, the DX100 Solid Bass patch is still used by the likes of Shadow Child and many other current producers in these genres. Also great for pop, hip-hop, and ambient styles as well.

For those of us who don't have DX100s on hand, I figured it would be a useful sound to recreate in Ableton's Operator. Though the envelope structure and shaping in Operator is quite different from the DX synths, I was able to get it sounding pretty darn close to the original.

Here's a great example of the Solid Bass patch from Orbital's "Halcyon + On + On" (Mortal Kombat soundtrack, anyone!?). The bass kicks in right around 0:15:
