UberGate and Sidechainer - Audio Effect Racks

Special Instructions

Simply download and unzip the included Ableton Live project folder, then open the project.

Click the floppy disk button on the corner of both Audio Effect Racks on Audio Track 1 to save the patches into your User Library.

Here are a few Audio Effect Racks I concocted to add some movement to my synth pads and strings. But they work really well on any sustained instrument sound! By utilizing multiple instances of Ableton Live's Auto Pan effect, grouped into Racks, I was able to create rhythmic volume gating effects and also simulate sidechain compression from a "4-on-the-floor" kick drum.

In the audio example, I've played 4 bars of a simple chord progression with a synth strings patch. Notice there is no "movement" in these first 4 bars - they're very static! After the first pass of the chord progression, I started recorded myself tweaking some of the macros to engage volume gating, and eventual "sidechain compression" from the kick, to add more motion and interest to the synth strings!
